Austevollwalking trails / North Sea trails

The North Sea trails are marked. For more information, see Hordaland County Council’s website.

N= Stolmen from Kvalvåg – Våge
N= Selbjørn Gauksheim – Stolmabrua
N= Selbjørn Grasdal – Bekkjarvik
N= Hudvåkøy – Troland
N= Bakkasund Kalve – Skansen

The North Sea trail on Stolmen: The trail follows the old road from Kvalvåg to Våge. There are detours to "Såta", Stolmen’s highest point. You will also walk past the remains of the radar installation the Germans built during World War II. You need good footwear because the land is boggy. If you are lucky you will encounter wild sheep or maybe an eagle or a horned owl. Even an albatross has been spotted. A brochure of the trail is available from Hordaland County Council and from the general store on Stolmen,
C. Aarland, tel: 56 18 50 13.

Mountain peaks: Veten, Loddo, Kongsen.

Walking trails:
Folkestien (the People’s Path) on Stolmen: On Våge you can make the trip across the breakwater, walk the path to the lighthouse and experience a panoramic view of the sea – across the Selbjørnsfjorden Fjord, Tysnes, Stord, Bømlo, Brandasundet and as far as Slaaterøy lighthouse. The path continues through Stolmavågen with its distinctive seafaring character, a place which was well known before the 17th century. There used to be a guesthouse in times past. The marked path ends in Kvalvåg, in the north of the island.

Vinnesvatnet Lake
There is a marked trail showing a pleasant walking area around the lake at Vinnes School. Opportunities for fishing and swimming.
